Úna McMahon began her vocal studies at the City of Belfast School of Music and from there moved to the Royal Irish Academy of Music (RIAM) where she completed a BA in Music Performance under the guidance of Dr Veronica Dunne. She is currently training on the MOpera course at the RSAMD under the tutelage of Pat Hay. On the concert platform Una has performed in such works as Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, Handel’s Messiah, Saint-Saens Oratorio de Noel, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Mozart’s Requiem and Walton’s cycle A Song for the Lord Mayor’s Table. In Sept 2004 she sang live from Belfast for the BBC’s Last Night of the Proms. In opera scenes performances she has played the 3rd lady (Die Zauberfl öte), Nikolaus (Tales of Hoffmann) and Nerone (L’incoronazione di Poppea) all at the RIAM. In RSAMD scenes she has played Cherubino (Le Nozze di Figaro), Annio (La Clemenza di Tito), Arsamene (Serse), Hansel (Hansel and Gretel) and Rosina (Il Barbiere di Sivilgia). Her full roles include Polly (The Beggar’s Opera) Amore (L’incoronazione di Poppea) and Dorothée (Cendrillon). Forthcoming engagements include the role of Dorabella in the RSAMD production of Così fan Tutte. Una’s studies are generously supported by the RSAMD and the Lawrence Atwell’s Trust.
