Richard Latham

Richard was organ scholar at Emmanuel College, Cambridge and choral scholar in the Choir of King’s College, Cambridge. After university he worked as an organist in New York, studying singing with Anthony Manoli. He then studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London with Mark Wildman, Janice Chapman and Iain Ledingham and appeared in masterclasses with James Bowman, Malcolm Martineau, Paul Wynn Griffiths and Dalton Baldwin.

His operatic roles to date include Papageno in The Magic Flute at Dartington; King Hermann Augustus in Bernstein’s Candide at the Edinburgh International Festival with Robert Spano; Rameau’s Anacréon with Benslow Baroque Opera, The Beggar’s Oopera at the Handel House Museum; the Guide in Britten’s Death in Venice with the Philharmonia under Richard Hickox and Monteverdi’s L’Oorfeo with René Jacobs at the Aix-en-Provence Festival.

Concert performances include Bach’s Christmas Ooratorio and Sst John Passion, Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Vespers with Emma Kirkby, Vaughan Williams’ Five Mystical Ssongs and the Requiem settings by Brahms, Fauré and Duruflé. On the recital platform he has appeared at the London Song Festival 2007; at Hertford College, Oxford and at Blenheim Palace. Richard is now living in Glasgow, studying at the Alexander Gibson Opera School and is generously supported by the RSAMD’s Sievewright Catto scholarship, the Josephine Baker Trust, Il Circolo Londra and Dartington International Festival.
