Geoffrey Paterson

Geoffrey was born in Kent in 1983. He read Music at St John’s College, Cambridge, where he studied composition with Alexander Goehr. He was a conducting student of Peter Stark in London and Alasdair Mitchell at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, a member of Diego Masson’s conducting class at Dartington, and has twice been selected for the Lucerne Festival Academy conducting masterclass, studying with Pierre Boulez and Peter Eötvös. With the Cambridge University Opera Society, Geoffrey conducted world premières of operas by James Hewitt and Rowland Moseley and a production of Peter Grimes. He has worked as Repetiteur and Assistant Conductor for L’Heure Espagnole, Albert Herring, Eugene Onegin and Dialogues des Carmélites at the RSAMD, as Conductor for The Magic Flute at Dartington, as Repetiteur for La Traviata and The Pearl Fishers with Kentish Opera, and as conductor/harpsichord for Venus and Adonis and Acis and Galatea with Edinburgh Studio Opera. Geoffrey’s other professional conducting work has included the Cheltenham International Festival, Hertfordshire Chamber Orchestra, Edinburgh University Chamber Orchestra, Edinburgh Youth Orchestra, Aberystwyth Musicfest Sinfonietta and National Youth Orchestra Sinfonietta. Geoffrey has also assisted Mark Fitz-Gerald with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra and at the Komische Oper Berlin. Geoffrey joins the repetiteur course at the National Opera Studio in September 2008 supported by an MBF Award for Repetiteurs
