Flats

RCS has a large stock of flats. The majority of these are black wool serge-covered masking flats for the Athenaeum. These can be recovered if needed, to avoid having to construct more flattage. The full list of available flats is below.

There are also flats made for the Chandler. These are not covered in black wool serge as yet so can be finished to suit the production. They are designed to fit under the gantry's stage left and stage right (when the space is using the seating bank) as traditional leg masking and they also have extensions so that they can be used as on stage flats, including making a complete back wall.

There are also a number of smaller flats listed below. These can be used in a variety of ways, such as entrance maskers, quick change booths, or masking in the Chandler.

Increasingly, RCS will be looking to save flats built for productions. In general, these will be stored in the On-Site Container. Details of these and other stored resources can be found on the Built Resources page.

Note: If a flat is marked with SL or SR then it should be used on that side of the stage to ensure the seam is not visible to the audience. Those marked with SL/SR have the seam in the middle.

Braces

We have a number of French Braces for standing-up flats in stock these are in roughly two sizes and we have some adjustable braces.

There are also adjustable braces, which are stored in the void at the back of the Athenaeum.
