Grant was born and raised in Edinburgh, Education in his child and teen years was provided by George Herriot, where his only interest was the subject of drama taking part in various school productions. He has also worked with various local hire companies in the Edinburgh area and has experience working on Fringe shows. He likes rugby and plays guitar.
