Counter hinges are used for counter tops and trap lids where they have to fold back flat onto the counter top or stage without ripping the hinge out of the timber.
Lift off hinge as the name implies it allows the hinged piece to be lifted off.
Butt hinge standard hinge used for hanging doors, especially doors/windows that open onstage. This hinge has to be recessed into the door for it to work properly.
Flush hinges have the same uses as butt hinges but do not need recessed in as one side (leaf) sits flush into the other.
Parliament hinge these are used when a door or window has to open 180%, which, the extended leaf allows it to do.
Spring hinge or bomber hinges are used when a door has to swing both ways. As in kitchen doors in restaurants or front doors in saloons.
As the picture of the cranked hinge does not do it justice we will deal with it when we are covering hinges in the classes.
