In The Burial at Thebes a character's body had to be brought onstage after a rather bloody death. This recipe was concocted to allow the actor to have some of the blood in their mouth and for it to dribble/trickle out.
Edible Blood
Ingredients
• Icing Sugar • Water • Red Food Colouring • Green Food Colouring
Method
(measurements are relative to how much blood is required)
1. Fill cup/bowl with 1-2 tablespoons of icing sugar
2. Gradually add water small drops at a time, mixing until you get a blood-like consistency (yum)
3. Add a couple of drops of red food colouring and mix
4. Add drop of green colouring to deepen tone
5. Add a mixture of red and green until you get a very deep blood-like red colour
