Written by Igor Stravinsky for the 1913 Paris season of Diaghilev’s Ballet Russes and choreographed by Vaslav Nijinsky, ‘The Rite of Spring’ premiered on May 29th 1913 at the Theatre des Champs-Elysees, Paris and caused immediate uproar. The story of pagan sacrifice, the avant-garde nature of the music, the outrageous costumes and the unusual choreography prompted audience members to riot and had critics up in arms.

The performance will have its World Premiere at Tramway on 18 March 2013.
