Group statement
We started off at one of the examples on the work sheet "the Vic" was previously mentioned as a historical interest location with a cafe interior furnishing where recovered long ago as a exhibition piece from an soon to be demolished building and has remained in the same state ever since. Although h the cafe has recently reshaped into a full blown student bar and nightclub, staff in the Vic suggested we would find a better Cafe -ìatmosphereî at WTms next door.
WTMS "Where The monkeys Sleeps" the student cafe next to the VIC is the same company that runs the cafe bar on the first floor of the academy (the one with the incredible brownies!)
We then proceeded around Glasgow to catch as many cafes as we could on route to a "greasy spoon" in the Barrowland areas
We surveyed numerous cafes in the Glasgow some upscale some downscale, some specifically designed for students, others designed for the fair-trade/environment orientated. You guaranteed to find a cafe in Glasgow that caters to your specific and craving needs. From Mexican to fish and chips, hard core rock to women's only libraries.
We never made it to the barras instead we discovered a interesting establishment with an art deco appearance modelled around the theme of post steam-punk travel located behind the Tron Theatre directly adjacent to A1 comics the Trans Europe Cafe has a combination of 'booth type' leather upholstered seating opposite recycled retro bus seats and tables. The walls contain are covered in a combination of red tiles leather padding and maps of Europe, there are also painting /pictures of vehicles and people that shaped modern transport. The cafe had a more continental feel to it than a lot of the other cafes in the centre but at the same time it wasnít too upmarket or out of the ordinary. Clientele wise the cafe seemed to have a broad appeal. Some cafes can be the type of place that only a certain type of person will go to but this place was not. The cafe did seem to attract all of us to it which is why we decided to go inside. A lot of city centre cafes have a tendency to be somewhat mediocre no matter how stylish they are trying to be but the Trans Europe Cafe had successfully managed to achieve style and character in equal measure.
