Paule Constable

Lighting is what Paule Constable calls ‘the secret language of theatre’.

Paule Constable took a degree in English and Drama and then ‘talked her way in’ to an apprenticeship with a lighting firm doing all the simple jobs such as changing plugs and moving the generator, working initially as a follow-spot operator, and gradually progressing and learning from more experienced people. She has worked in lots of theatres in the UK, Europe and the USA, lighting not only plays but also opera, music theatre and dance. Nominated for many Olivier Awards - has won 3 (His Dark Materials, Don Carlos, The Chalk Garden) She enjoys using the space and confining it down with the use of light

Most recent work - War Horse at the National Theatre, and forecoming work, a re-light of Les Miserables for the UK Tour 2010.
