This was my second year mixing the Ba Musical theatre showcase. So i was in the fortunate position to be able to look at the production with a level of hindsight.
I made the decision to cut the boundary mics along the front edge of the stage as I had not used them the previous year, these were left over from the years before the cast were individually micd
I also limited the band to 15 inputs as this was all the Novello could offer us, for the same reason the band were limited to 3 monitor mixes.
Glasgow
In Glasgow the show was mixed on a DiGiCo SD10 inputs were from A DiGiCo SD Rack and Outputs were from the SD Rack and System outputs were provided by a DiGiCo SD Nano Rack in the orchestra pit, using the analogue tie-lines to output to the Ath sound system
The show was mixed in the standard musical theatre format of Recalled VCA’s, tiered via midi by Qlab allowing the fairly large input count to be controlled on 12 faders. There was 75 cues across the one hour 15 minute show.
London
In Glasgow the show was mixed on the In-house DiGiCo SD7
The show was mixed in the standard musical theatre format of Recalled VCA’s, tiered via midi by Qlab allowing the fairly large input count to be controlled on 12 faders. There was 75 cues across the one hour 15 minute show. (these cues were sent in advance to London and programmed by the mama mia sound team in advance of the production day.
