Our Project

Our collaborative project was based in a series of tunnels and we chose to communicate what we thought "A Sense Of Belonging" meant in many different ways. The first tunnel started by showing a simple slide-show of images which we associated generally with "A Sense Of Belonging" (Picture 1). This helped to ease everyone into our project, and set the mood for the other rooms. As people moved into our second tunnel they met our man Eugene (Picture 2). This room symbolized us and our families and also contained pictures of members of our team when we were younger than we are now (but not just young, since we are still young, happening people!)

As you turned the corner you entered our third room which was messy and with distorted dimensions (Picture 3 & 4). This linked into "A Sense Of Belonging" since it shows even when things go a bit off the rail, and you face decisions or problems in your life where you feel messed-up inside, you can still find your "Sense Of Belonging" and make your way though it. Secondary to this, it symbolized how what might seem a mess to one person, makes sense to another, and how we don't always appreciate other people and the choices they make. The third room ended in a small tunnel which forced people into our enclosed senses room (Picture 5 & 6). As people moved into the senses room there was a change in atmosphere. Many were scared as they were sprayed with water, smelled strange smells, and felt changing textures all around them. I think this symbolized something different for every person. For some people in our group it showed how those things we are unfamiliar with, or those choices other people make (from room 3), can scare us, and feel strange if we are submerged in them. For others it showed how we don't just display our sense of belonging in what we do, but in the way we dress, what we say and how we feel which is shown all around. For others it showed how we should step out of our comfort zone, and away from the "Sense Of Belonging" to explore those things which might scare us.

Throughout the set of tunnels, the participants are being drawn towards music at the end, and as you enter our final room, all becomes clear (well we hope so!). Our rave room (Picture 7 & 8) is where we feel we belong as students. Students have a reputation for being drunken party animals, and are we going to deny it? Not really, since for the most part it is true! The rave room was covered in pictures of people from the course at parties and raves enjoying themselves. This shows how we all need to relax sometimes and how all we all belong to a collective group of friends at the RSAMD.

Our Thoughts

I can not speak for the whole group, I can only share my thoughts, but I hope the whole group will share at least a few words here.

"...When I started I was not sure about the project, I thought that I would have been happier not bothering, but when I look at what I achieved I am so glad I stuck with it and I had such a great team to work beside..."

"...I thought it was great how the three groups worked together to create one big presentation, and I thought it was very well planned out (or a miracle, if you so wish) that the three fitted together so well..."
